From the Application:

Describe a hardship that strengthened your zeal for journalistic writing.

A year ago, I lost my best friend. I slipped into a dark place, which at the time felt depthless. But somewhere in that nothingness lived a speck of somethingness. Once I was aware of its presence, I discovered a hope that led to a strength, which gave me the will power to even speak of this now in an application essay twelve months later. I realized that this speck was the survival of my love for music, carried over through my pain.

Life and music mirror each other. They can be both harmonious and discordant, but in the end, each measure fuels the next and ultimately leads to a resolution. I know this opportunity with Elite would both carry on the memory of that friend, the most talented writer and musician I knew, and serve as that resolution for me.
